Have you ever…

tried this?

One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to eat more (hot) oatmeal for breakfast. It is filled with nutrients and is a great early morning food choice.   I love granola, which is made primarily from oats, but I don’t love fixing hot oatmeal in the morning - just one of my quirks I guess.

So, as I was perusing the grocery store (which I love to do), looking for new and interesting items, I came across this little gem.

Frozen oatmeal.

Although granola will always be my favorite way to eat oats, this variety is convenient, quick, and thick (runny oatmeal is not my idea of a good time).

Topped with yummy goodness, this hearty and healthy breakfast is ready in a matter of minutes.  And better yet, the only cleanup is the bowl.  Score!

Yummy oatmeal topping ideas:
  • dried or fresh fruit – my  pick:  Dried Bing Cherries.
  • nuts – pecans, walnuts or slivered almonds.
  • peanut butter, or any desired nut butter – drizzle on top for a bit more protein.
  • granola – adds more nutrients from oats and a bit of crunch.
  • toasted coconut – you’ll feel like you’re in the islands, mon.
  • cereal
  • brown sugar – I use the Splenda brown sugar blend to save a few calories, but still get the same effect.
  • chocolate chips – these little morsels will make you smile, in moderation.
  • honey
  • 1/2 t vanilla extract
  • cinnamon
  • pinch of salt

REMEMBER:  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  The more quick, easy and fun you make it, the more you’ll look forward to eating it.  Even if it is at the...yawn...crack of dawn.
