Want to know the best way to end a Thursday night 3 mile run during marathon training?  Food Trucks and dinner!  Mike and I recently found out about the Apopka Food Truck Round-up and wanted to give it a try.  We had been to a round-up at Lake Lily in Maitland before and enjoyed it, but have never had one so close to our house.

Since we had a 3 miler scheduled for our training, we thought it would be fun to run from our house to the round-up and then drive home.  I met Mike after work to drop off a car at the venue and then we headed home to get ready to run to dinner.

We used Map My Run to be sure to get the correct mileage and took off.  We left our money and camera in the parked car (hidden of course) so we didn’t have to run with it and then just picked it up before visiting the trucks.

The place was hopping!  Tons of people, great weather and long lines meant a very successful night.  There was lots of variety and adorable trucks.  Beer, seafood, Korean bbq, crepes, gourmet delicatessen, burgers, sandwiches, salads, cupcakes, and much, much more.

Food Trucks

Big Wheel Provisions is the local rockstar of the food truck industry that serves up delicious bites of goodness.  My friend John knows the chef well and sings his praises. We are lucky enough to have tried food from this truck before and my favorite is definitely the 4 Cheese Grit Cakes.  Delicious!

I also love the ironing board tables for people to stand and eat – genius!

Tonight, though, we were in the mood for The Crooked Spoon.  Mike ordered the Crooked Spoon Burger and I opted for the Cranberry Turkey Sandwich with two waters to fight dehydration since we were fresh off of our run.

Our wait was only about 5-10 minutes which was pretty impressive since the food is prepared fresh the moment you put in your order.  I also loved the bags, but have to admit that Grocery Lane has a much better ring to it than Turkey Lane!

My sandwich was awesome and packed full of turkey, while Mike’s burger was heavenly.  The brioche bun took it up a notch and made every bite even better.  We shared bite of each all while nibbling on crispy homemade potato chips.

Pardon the crazy hair and sweat stained shirt.  I guess that is just one of the side effects of running to dinner!

After finishing our meal, we checked out a few more trucks to take a few more pictures and check out our dessert options.  Have you ever heard of a Pupusa?  I hadn’t until tonight, but they must be good because the line at this truck was quite long as well.

Taken from Wikipedia.com:  A pupusa (from Pipil pupusaw) is a traditional Salvadoran dish made of thick, hand-made corn tortilla (made using masa de maíz, a maize flour dough used in Latin American cuisine) that is usually filled with a blend of the following: cheese (queso) (usually a soft cheese called Quesillo found in all Central America), cooked pork meat ground to a paste consistency (called chicharrón, not to be confused with fried pork rind, which is also known as chicharrón in some other countries), refried beans (frijoles refritos), or queso con loroco (loroco is a vine flower bud from Central America).

As for the sweet treat trucks, The Crepe Company had an adorable black and white awning and quite a long line, but he longest line of the night belongs to the Yum Yum Cupcake Truck.

The line didn’t go down the entire time we were there, in fact, it kept growing.  They must really be Yum, Yum! We decided to head home and give that one a try another day.

We had a blast and are definitely planning on going back.  I always love when community events have great turn outs. Kudos to all!
