Cranberry Walnut Cheese Ball

Are you in need of a fresh, spring-inspired appetizer to take to your next party?  Well, look no further...I have it right here!

You guys know that I love trying out new recipes on lots of people at parties, showers or simple get-togethers.  Well, a few weeks ago I attended a baby shower for a co-worker and I couldn't wait to try this Cranberry Walnut Cheese Ball.

I love cheese, I was intrigued with the thought of adding orange zest to a cheese ball and I just felt like this recipe would taste like spring...so I had to try it.  Boy was I was right.  It was delicious and got rave reviews from my taste testers.  The orange zest gave it that little bit of zing and the walnuts gave it the perfect amount of crunch.  I will definitely be putting this on my go-to list.

Oh, and did I mention easy?  Yep.  Suuuuper easy.  Enjoy!

Congrats Nikki!

1 8 oz. pkg. reduced fat cream cheese, room temperature
1 C shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 t. orange zest
1/2 C copped dried cranberries, divided
1/4 C chopped walnuts

Combine cheeses, zest and half of the chopped cranberries until smooth and well mixed.  Stir cheese mixture into a ball and place in plastic wrap, making a ball shape as your wrap it up tightly.  Chill in the fridge overnight or until firm.  Before serving, combine the remaining cranberries with  the walnuts and roll the cheese ball in it pushing the toppings in to coat.  Serve with crackers.

Recipe Tips:

  • Cream cheese can be brought to room temperature a few hours or even the day before you need to use it.
  • I used pre-grated, packaged sharp cheddar, but shredding your own block would be even better and add a bit more flavor.
