Sliding Rock – Pisgah National Forrest
Sliding Rock is a 60' natural rock slide with a 6-7 foot deep pool at the base. Think of it as a waterfall slide. So fun!
It is about 30 minutes from Hendersonville and is a steal at $1 per person entry fee. I was the only veteran Sliding Rock visitor in our group and I couldn’t wait to show it off!
The only downfall? THE WATER IS FREEZING!
Of course the worst, most shocking part is the first run down the slide; it literally takes your breath away. After that we’ll just call the water “refreshing”.
The day we were there, a Friday, it was packed, but luckily we found parking (which is limited) and the line moved very fast. The weather was delightful and we had a blast!
Go, Lynn, go!
There is also a nice area over to the side for wading and lounging. Jenny’s sister, Andrea, and her family joined us for the day (and the rest of the stay) and the kids loved hanging in the “chill” zone. So did we!
Blue Ridge Parkway
After leaving Sliding Rock and sitting down to a nice picnic lunch we decided to “climb” (in our cars) the rest of the mountain to make it up to drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
According to Wikitravel, the Blue Ridge Parkway is in the states of North Carolina and Virginia in the United States of America. The Parkway wanders 469 miles between Shenandoah National Park and Great Smoky Mountains National Park, along a very scenic stretch of road.
The views are breathtaking and the roads are very winding. Every turn lends itself to another gasp of wonder. The parkway, which is considered to be “America’s favorite drive” has many scenic overlooks which are great for pictures, and drivers – they don’t get to see a whole lot while concentrating on the road!

(Homemade) Slip ‘n Slide
Upon returning home, the shenanigans were just beginning, as usual. Earlier that day, a few of us made a run to the local Lowe’s to pick up some “supplies”. The driveway to the house is on a pretty decent slope and the boys knew just what they wanted to do. Slip ‘n Slide.
After buying 50’ of plastic and 90 oz. of dish soap, we were ready. What we didn’t account for were the rocks sticking up from the sloped driveway…ouch!
Boys, especially our boys, will always be boys. We have come to grips with it…and love them anyway.
While the shenanigans went on outside, we were preparing a delicious and plentiful BBQ feast inside!
The Menu:
- Beef and Cheese Sliders w/ all the fixins’
- Brats and Hot Dogs
- Sliced watermelon
- Fresh Corn on the Cob
- Pickles
100% Americana!
Mike, the grill master.
Love those laughs!
A huge meal, after a huge day. Dee-lish.
See you tomorrow with the last recap of our trip (it was the most beautiful, too. I can’t wait to share!
